For managed account portfolios, PIP utilizes proprietary asset allocation models based upon predetermined investment objectives and risk tolerance levels in the management of client assets.  These models incorporate both equity and fixed income securities for sector diversification. For equities, these sectors are further broken down by market capitalization and area of focus. For fixed income, these sectors are further broken down by maturity of issues, credit quality of the underlying and collateral backing the issue. The common theme of all the models is to generate favorable risk-adjusted returns.

Research

Our style for investment research is one taking a macro view of the investing environment, determining where we need to be and to what extent. From there, we incorporate fundamental and bottom-up analysis for investment selection. For portfolio construction, we incorporate our findings into our proprietary asset allocation models. Portfolio rebalancing and modifications are performed on macro, sector and an investment specific basis.

Approach

Our approach is to incorporate fundamental, bottom-up investment selection with the pillars of Modern Portfolio Theory seeking to create uniquely diversified, value-add asset allocation models that produce favorable risk adjusted returns to the investor.

Allocation discipline

In constructing our asset allocation models, we use both individual equities and sector-based exchange traded funds (ETFs).  Our security universe is broad-based as we seek to create well-diversified investment models. While sector-based ETFs may have portfolio weightings exceeding 10% of the portfolio, our individual equities selections will typically have weightings in the 1%-3% range,  For the PIP Dynamic Growth model, our Portfolio Turnover should typically be in the 15%-25% range, our target Beta (as a measured against the S&P 500 index) is 0.90% to 1.00%, our allocation to cash will be 1%-4% of the portfolio value and the number of positions in the portfolio will typically run between 25 and 35 positions.

Sell discipline

In determining the liquidation of a position in the portfolio, the following non-exclusive criteria will be used: Perceived Value (is the position still considered to be a value) – if there is no perceived value then the position will be liquidated; Overweight in the portfolio (due to price appreciation of the position or price deprecation of the other portfolio positions) – if the position has achieved an overweight position due to portfolio moves then the position will be modified to bring the position back into a more appropriate portfolio weighting; Sector Modification – if a current portfolio sector is in our view no longer providing a value-add to the portfolio then the sector and its components will be liquidated.

Important Information

  1. Past performance is no guarantee of future results, and all investments, including those in this portfolio, involve the risk of loss, including loss of principal and a reduction in earnings.
  2. All performance information on this page is based on the performance of the Portfolio Manager’s account, using the manager’s own funds. Portfolio Manager’s pre-IBKR Asset Management performance information may include performance of non-IBKR Asset Management client accounts. Performance of the Portfolio Manager's account is calculated by IBKR Asset Management on a daily time-weighted basis, including cash, dividends and earnings distributions and reflects the deduction of broker commissions. Manager returns include trades and positions that fail IBKR Asset Management's trading rules, as a result, actual client returns will differ. IBKR Asset Management advisory fees are simulated and applied retroactively to present the portfolio return "net-of-fees".
  3. None of the performance information displayed on this page is based on the actual performance of any IBKR Asset Management client account investing in this portfolio. The performance in an IBKR Asset Management client account invested in this portfolio may differ (i.e., be lower or higher) from the Portfolio Manager’s account performance based on any trading restrictions imposed by the client (resulting in different account holdings), time of initial investment, amount of investment, frequency and size of cash flows in and out of the client account, applicable brokerage commissions, and different corporate actions. Clients investing in this portfolio may view the actual performance of their investment in this portfolio by logging into their IBKR Asset Management account and reviewing their customized dashboard.
  4. All graph data is as of the end of day for the referenced period, unless otherwise specified. The investment minimum is the minimum investment required to follow a particular portfolio. The minimum amount is determined by IBKR Asset Management, based on the characteristics of the underlying portfolio. It should not be considered as specific investment advice for your investment situation.

For certain portfolios IBKR Asset Management uses an index as a benchmark, while for others it uses an investable exchange traded fund (ETF) as a benchmark. Index returns do not reflect the deduction of any management fees, transaction costs or expenses. Individuals cannot invest directly in an index.
