The Aggressive Asset Allocation portfolio is a diversified portfolio designed for a long-term investor seeking potential for capital appreciation. Since different asset classes outperform and underperform in different situations and under different economic conditions, by combining asset classes, this portfolio aims to provide both growth as well as stability.

Research

Research is undertaken to ensure that the diversified mix of asset classes for this portfolio is appropriate for the targeted investor profile and level of risk. We look for diversification not only across asset classes (e.g., equities versus bonds) but also within a single asset class (e.g., corporate bonds versus treasuries). Portfolio optimization techniques, weight and risk constraints are then considered to derive target allocations.

Approach

Specific Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) are screened and chosen to best represent the target asset class, while also having relatively low management fees and more liquidity. For taxable accounts, we select tax-advantaged assets like municipal bonds. Each quarter, this portfolio is rebalanced to target allocations.

Allocation discipline

The portfolio will target 10 to 14 ETFs. The selection and weighting of the specific ETFs in each portfolio depends on their expected return characteristics, the degree of diversification that they provide within the portfolio, the management fees charged by each ETF, and their relative liquidity.

Sell discipline

Every quarter this portfolio is rebalanced to target weights. Sell decisions are exclusively based upon the target weight quarterly rebalance criteria.

About IB Asset Management

IB Asset Management is a pioneer in online investing. IB Asset Management offers a variety of portfolios, including the Asset Allocation portfolios, which are managed by IB Asset Management's Chief Investment Officer and Investment Management team. Diversification is about buying a basket of securities that tend to do well (or poorly) at different times and under different economic conditions. Being thoughtful about how much capital to allocate to each of these securities can result in far more consistent returns than concentrating all capital (and risk) in a single security or asset class. IB Asset Management offers several diversified portfolios that are dialed up or down for risk, offer good diversification across different asset classes, and attain this diversification by investing in low-cost, liquid ETFs.

Important Information

  1. Past performance is no guarantee of future results, and all investments, including those in this portfolio, involve the risk of loss, including loss of principal and a reduction in earnings.
  2. Interactive Brokers Asset Management’s (IB Asset Management) Asset Allocation portfolios are made up of whole and/or fractional holdings of Exchange Traded Funds (ETF) and in certain cases individual stocks. They are not ETFs or Mutual Funds. Clients choosing to invest in these portfolios directly own the individual stocks and/or ETF shares making up these portfolios.
  3. To invest in one of the Asset Allocation portfolios, IB Asset Management clients must:
    • Sign an Investment Management Agreement with and become a client of IB Asset Management;
    • Consent to trading with another Interactive Brokers LLC client who is a liquidity provider in order to be able to buy and sell fractions of ETF shares and stocks, which do not trade on the open market. IB Asset Management clients may revoke this consent at any time but, if they do, they will no longer be able to invest in any of these portfolios. (Clients can see these fractional trades with the liquidity provider listed and identified on the periodic activity statements they receive from Interactive Brokers LLC); and
    • Obtain the minimum risk score required for each portfolio and acknowledge certain risk disclosures.
  4. IB Asset Management manages these portfolios by trading its own funds in separate firm-owned brokerage accounts and replicating this trading in the accounts of investing clients as follows:
    • IB Asset Management initially funds and trades a fixed amount of its own funds in a separate brokerage account associated with each Asset Allocation portfolio;
    • IB Asset Management replicates the trading in these brokerage accounts in the accounts of clients investing in each specific Asset Allocation portfolio in order to implement its replication-based investment process; and
    • IB Asset Management periodically rebalances these portfolios to maintain target allocations.
  5. Clients may restrict any of the stocks or ETFs traded in their account, but should note that any restrictions they place on their investments could affect the performance of their account leading it to perform differently, worse or better, than (a) IB Asset Management’s account managing the portfolio or (b) other client accounts invested in the same portfolio.
  6. Quarterly rebalances in these portfolios will result in numerous transactions in many or all the stocks and/or ETFs in the portfolios and client accounts invested in these portfolios. Clients will incur transaction costs for any trading in their account (including quarterly rebalance trades) such as commissions payable to Interactive Brokers LLC, IB Asset Management’s affiliated broker-dealer, which is a conflict of interest. Clients could be required to report some or all of these quarterly rebalance trades on their tax forms. IB Asset Management does not provide tax advice or prepare tax documents for its clients. Clients should consult an accountant or tax attorney on tax matters. Interactive Brokers LLC provides certain tools to assist you with your tax filings, but these tools may only be able to support a limited number of trades.
  7. In addition to IB Asset Management’s management fees and Interactive Brokers LLC commissions, clients will also be charged management fees and other expenses (custodian fees, brokerage commissions, and legal and accounting fees) by the ETF issuers.
  8. Clients may find additional information on the risks, conflicts of interest, applicable brokerage commissions, fractional shares, and limitations on investments and divestments associated with these portfolios here and on the Forms and Agreements page (along with IB Asset Management’s full disclosures). Additional information on the performance, composition and construction process for these portfolios may be found on each Asset Allocation portfolio page.
  9. This portfolio was launched on IB Asset Management on November 14, 2017. On that date, IB Asset Management started trading its own funds in a brokerage account trading this strategy. This portfolio was opened to client investments on November 14, 2017.
  10. The actual performance of the manager account displayed on this page is based on the performance of the IB Asset Management proprietary account invested using this strategy and is calculated by IB Asset Management on a daily time-weighted basis, including cash, dividends and earnings distributions. The actual performance for this portfolio is presented “net of fees” and reflects the deduction of the IB Asset Management advisory fee, Interactive Brokers LLC brokerage and other commissions and expenses that a client has to pay if he invests in this portfolio after the launch date.
  11. The performance information displayed on this page is not based on the actual performance of any client accounts. The performance in client accounts may be lower or higher than the IB Asset Management’s account performance (displayed on this page) based on a variety of factors, such as trading restrictions imposed by the client (resulting in different account holdings), time of initial investment, amount of investment, frequency and size of cash flows in and out of the client account, applicable brokerage commissions, and different corporate actions. Clients investing in this portfolio may view the actual performance of their investment in this portfolio by logging into their IB Asset Management account and reviewing their customized dashboard.
  12. All graph data is as of the end of day for the referenced period, unless otherwise specified. The investment minimum is the minimum investment required to invest in a particular portfolio. The minimum amount is determined by IB Asset Management, based on the characteristics of the underlying portfolio. It should not be considered as specific investment advice for your investment situation.
  13. The actual performance chart is provided for informational purposes only, and should not be used as the basis for making an investment decision. We rely on mathematical formulas, computer programs, and pricing information from third-party vendors to provide these returns. 14. Benchmark returns displayed have been calculated by IB Asset Management using daily benchmark prices and do not include dividend income. More information here. For certain portfolios IB Asset Management uses an index as a benchmark, while for others it uses an ETF as a benchmark. Index returns do not reflect the deduction of any management fees, transaction costs or expenses. Individuals cannot invest directly in an index. Investable ETF returns reflect the deduction of (i.e., are net of) management fees, transaction costs and expenses.
  15. Transaction history is available upon request. Portfolio classifications are provided by IB Asset Management, and are intended to serve as a general guide.
  16. Not all transactions listed on this page or underlying the performance information displayed on this page will appear in accounts due to IB Asset Management's trading rules and individual client constraints.
